FORGET ME NOT

FORGET ME NOT

On April 22, 2016, a lay forum entitled A.W.A.R.E was organized to raise awareness on dementia. Dementia is a collective term used to describe the problems that people with various underlying brain disorders or damage can have with their memory, language
and thinking. Alzheimer's disease is the best known and most common disorder under the umbrella of dementia. The said conference was held at Clinica Manila megamall, attended primarily by elderly people. It was hosted by Daniel Lao, a medical representative by profession. The speaker was Dr. Maurice Sanosa, a board member of the Dementia Society of Philippines and the Philippine Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, and is also a member of the American Society of Geriatric Medicine.

Geriatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with the health and care of old people. The discussion was based on providing a greater understanding of how we can actually create a society where every person with dementia, and their careers and families, receive high quality and compassionate care. This includes sharing awareness on dementia’s signs, symptoms, types, and treatment. Since the more you understand
about dementia, the more you can do to improve your outcome and preserve your sense of control.
